FORT WORTH — From the front stoop of his furniture store, Ed Ziglar watches as his north-side neighborhood is overrun by gangs.
Buildings are tagged with gang symbols. Windshields are smashed. Kids take control of the streets at night.
‘I’ve been here 30 years, and I haven’t seen it controlled yet,’ said Ziglar, who was reluctant to speak because he feared retaliation. ‘The gangs got free will to roam the streets.’
In an attempt to take back the streets, the city persuaded state District Judge David Evans on Friday to sign an order creating a 3.6-square-mile safety zone, giving police more power to fight the Northcide Four Trey Gangsta Crips, a gang they say is terrorizing the neighborhood. Read more
